Many investment banks are going through a difficult period of adjustment following the recent problems and challenges in the credit markets. After the last two years of aggressive hiring, expansion will be moderated for many institutions. However, we expect that particularly in Asia, banks with strong balance sheets and a commitment to the region will be using this period to take the opportunity to build out their business. Cross-border M&A and the ability to offer their clients interesting strategic ideas have become more important given the volatile nature of the equity markets. There will be growing emphasis on the principal versus the agency side of the business for many bulge bracket banks. John Burr covers the investment banking and alternative investment sectors for Asia. Our clients include a select but diverse range of clients with whom they have built long term relationships and a strong track record of success by sourcing high quality candidates globally through detailed research.
